MIAMI, Florida – Shaqueil Bradford scored a pair of second half goals to spark Harbour View of Jamaica to a 3-2 comeback triumph over Suriname’s Robinhood in Group B of the 2023 Concacaf Caribbean Cup on Wednesday night at Independence Park in Kingston, Jamaica.
After an even first half-hour, the visitors from Suriname broke the deadlock in the 33’ through their talisman Cairo for a 1-0 Robinhood lead. Jamilhio Rigters swung in a free kick that was punched by Harbour View GK Romario Palma, but it hit the back of a defender and fell right to the feet of Cairo, who had an easy finish into net.
Harbour View went right to work on finding an equalizer and it arrived right before the halftime whistle, as Omar Thompson collected a ball just outside the area and fired a shot that took a deflection and beat Robinhood GK Jonathan Fonkel for a 1-1 lead.
Robinhood responded right back in the second half and Rigters restored their lead with a coolly converted penalty in the 50’ for a 2-1 advantage.
The match was wide open, as Harbour View went on the hunt for the tying goal and came within a whisker in the 53’ when Romaine Brackenidge headed off the post.
A minute later the 2-2 equalizer did come when Bradford latched onto a long ball and fired into net for Harbour View.
Bradford was wreaking havoc on the Robinhood defense and after a giveaway, he beat the offside trap in the 69’, giving himself an open look and a sweep into net for a 3-2 Harbour View lead.
The chances kept coming, but in the end the spoils belonged to the home side, who closed things out for the three points.
