KINGSTON – Jamaican side Cavalier rose to the top of Group A of the 2023 Concacaf Caribbean Cup with a 2-1 victory against Port of Spain of Trinidad and Tobago on Thursday night at Sabina Park Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica.

Cavalier now sit atop the group with four points through two matches, while Port of Spain are still seeking their first point after two matches.

Cavalier burst out of the gates and took a 1-0 lead in just the eighth minute, with Ronaldo Robinson filtering in a pass to Jalmaro Calvin, whose left-footed finish beat Port of Spain GK Marvin Phillip for a 1-0 lead.

That one-goal lead held well into the second half before it was doubled on the hour mark, with Calvin getting to play the role of provider, this time rolling a pass to his left for the wide-open Christopher Ainsworth, whose left-footed shot beat Phillip to make it a 2-0 affair.

Port of Spain would no go quietly, though, and the visitors from Trinidad and Tobago pulled back to within 2-1 in the 71’ when Duane Muckette snapped a header into goal.

In the end, though, Cavalier saw things out to pocket the three points.
