MIAMI, Florida – Cavalier continued their high-flying, goal-scoring ways with a 5-0 victory over fellow Jamaican club Harbour View in the first leg of the 2023 Concacaf Caribbean Cup semifinals on Tuesday night at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica.
The victory puts Cavalier on the verge of a place in the Caribbean Cup Final and also a spot in the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup.
Shaniel Thomas hit the ground running and after scoring seven goals in the group stage, the dynamic Cavalier striker tallied his eighth goal of the tournament just five minutes in when he volleyed home a cross from Orlando Russell from the left wing.
Cavalier could smell blood and by the 12’, the scoreboard read 2-0 to the visitors, with Jamaro Calvin pounding on a loose ball in front of the Harbour View goal after a free kick was played into the area.
Harbour View needed to react, and they started to pepper Cavalier GK Vino Barclett with some shots on goal, including a Jahshaun Anglin shot that deflected off Shaquiel Bradford and spun over the crossbar right before halftime.
Harbour View kept pushing for a goal and a snap header from Bradford in the 52’ looked destined for a goal, only to see Barclett make a reaction save.
The hosts would come to rue the missed chances, as Cavalier extended their lead to 3-0 in the 64’ when a cross from Calvin touched off the heel of Harbour View DF Keven Clark and rolled over the line for a goal.
The Cavalier attack was unyielding, and it soon became 4-0 in the 73’ on an excellent finish from Jeovanni Laing. The night was then capped by Dwayne Allen in the 87’ with a shot from 12 yards away to round out the 5-0 scoreline.
