Cibao climbed to second place by defeating Grenades in the Caribbean Cup

SANTIAGO DE LOS CABALLEROS, Dominican Republic – Cibao FC won 2-1 against Grenades FC in the 2024 Concacaf Caribbean Cup on Wednesday at the Estadio Cibao FC in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic.

Jean López opened the scoring in the 27’ with a right-footed strike into the bottom left corner of goal. Ernesto Trinidad delivered the service to the center of the box.

Juan Díaz struck from close range in the 45’ but was denied by the crossbar.

Sherman Augustin tied the encounter in the 52’ by placing the ball into the net after meeting a cross from Malcolm Stewart.

Stewart nearly placed Grenades in front in the 64’ after striking inside the box to force a save from Cibao goalkeeper Miguel Lloyd.

Eddipo Rodríguez restored the lead for Cibao in the 72’ with a strike from the left side of the box.

Keanu Barrett struck from outside the box in the 90’+6 as Miguel Lloyd pushed away the last attempt from the Antigua and Barbuda side.

Grenades will retake the field against AC Port of Spain on September 17 in Couva, Trinidad and Tobago, hoping to collect its first three points.

The victory elevated Cibao to second in Group B, only behind fellow Dominican club Moca FC on goals scored. Cibao FC will also face AC Port of Spain for its next challenge on September 24 in Couva.
