Moca, Cavalier meet in semifinals of Caribbean Cup

MIAMI – Moca FC and Cavalier FC meet in the semifinals of the 2024 Concacaf Caribbean Cup on Thursday at Estadio Moca 85 in Moca, Dominican Republic.

Moca FC finished second in Group B with a 3-1-0 record. Defender Guillermo de Peña, midfielder Clifford Thomas and forward Gustavo Ascona were named to the group stage Best XI, giving the Dominican Republic side a top player in the tournament across each line.

De Peña was one of the top defensive players of the group stage with six steals, one goal and seven shots. Thomas provided one goal and one assist along with nine steals and two clearances. Ascona added three goals and one assist.

Cavalier FC was the winner of Group A with a 3-0-1 record. The Jamaican side opened the tournament with two consecutive wins before closing the group stage with a 4-1 win over Arnett Gardens.

With 11 goals, Cavalier FC was the highest scoring team of the group stage. Dwayne Atkinson was one of the top midfielders in the group stage with four goals and two assists to co-lead the Golden Boot race alongside teammate Shaquille Stein. Stein had four goals and one assist for Cavalier.

The two clubs will face each other for the second time. Cavalier FC won the previous encounter, 3-0 in Group A during the 2023 edition, with a hat-trick from Shaniel Thomas at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica.
