Moca second half comeback lifts club to Group B lead

MOCA, Dominican Republic – Moca won 3-2 against AC Port of Spain in the 2024 Concacaf Caribbean Cup on Tuesday at Estadio Moca 85 in Moca, Dominican Republic.

The two sides were looking to add to a point earned in the first match week. The victory places Moca at the top of Group B on four points.

John Paul Rochford placed the visitors in the lead in the 41’ with a goal from a free kick opportunity.

Rochford doubled the lead in the 49’ with a header in the box to connect on a service by Nathan Lewis.

Alan Aciar cut the deficit for the hosts in the 51’ with a strike in front of goal following a corner kick opportunity.

Gustavo Ascona tied the encounter in the 62’ with a left-footed shot inside the penalty area. Víctor Sánchez came off the bench to provide the assist.

Rochford had an opportunity to retake the lead from a penalty in the 86’, but the strike was off the mark to keep the score even.

Clifford Thomas converted from the penalty spot for the hosts in the 90’+1 for the match-winner and the full three points.

Moca will seek to continue its unbeaten start when it hosts Ouanaminthe FC on September 18 in the Dominican Republic.

AC Port of Spain’s next challenge will come against Grenades FC on September 17 in Couva, Trinidad and Tobago.
