Opportunity knocks as Moca host Golden Lion in Group A

MIAMI, Florida – Opportunity knocks for both Moca of the Dominican Republic and Martinique’s Golden Lion, as the two sides meet on Tuesday in Group A of the 2023 Concacaf Caribbean Cup at the Estadio Complejo Deportivo Moca 86 in Moca, Dominican Republic.

Both sides sit on three points through two matches, with Golden Lion in third-place in the group, a nose ahead of fourth-place Moca on goal difference.

However, a victory for either side would be enough to catapult them past Defence Force and into second-place for the time being. Defence Force will be in action against eliminated Port of Spain on Thursday.

After falling to Defence Force 1-0 in their opening match, Golden Lion bounced back with aplomb, gutting out an exciting 3-2 victory against Port of Spain in which legendary striker Kevin Parsemain scored the winning goal in the final minutes.

Thierry Catherine and Yordan Thimon also played big roles, with Catherine scoring the first goal and Thimon being a vacuum cleaner in the back. The defender has three ball recoveries through two games.

Manuel Vidal’s score helped Moca win their opener 1-0 against Port of Spain, but that was followed by a tough 3-0 loss in Jamaica to Cavalier.

Along with Vidal, Sebastian Valencia and Clifford Thomas will try to lead Moca forward. Valencia has registered four shots in the tournament, while Thomas leads the team in passes with 123 and supplied the assist on Vidal’s goal.
