MOCA, Dominican Republic – Ouanaminthe FC and AC Port of Spain played to a 1-1 draw in the 2024 Concacaf Caribbean Cup on Thursday at Estadio Moca 85 in Moca, Dominican Republic.
Haitian club Ouanaminthe made its debut in a Concacaf club tournament while Trinidad and Tobago side AC Port of Spain kicked off its second consecutive appearance. Both teams took a point each to start at the top of Group B in the opening match week.
Frantz Moise started the offense early with a hit from outside the box in the 1’ but Port of Spain goalkeeper Denzil Smith caught the attempt.
Shackiel Henry attempted a try from long range of his own in the 15’, forcing goalkeeper Marc Saul St Fleur to dive to avert the danger.
Widjoly Minoche struck inside the penalty area in the 28’ but was blocked by defender Weslie John.
Shackiel Henry placed AC Port of Spain in the lead in the 34' with a header in front of goal following a corner kick opportunity.
Weslie John nearly extended the lead in the 45’ with a header on another AC Port of Spain corner but the attempt was wide.
Joseph Willinx broke through with the tying goal in the 52' by pouncing on a loose ball in the penalty area.'
Jovenel Stanley Junior attempted to take the lead for the hosts in the 79’ but was wide of goal.
Roobens Philogene was close to delivering the match-winner in the 90'+5 but his attempt from midfield went wide to the outside of the left post.
AC Port of Spain will retake the field at Estadio Moca 85 when it takes on Moca FC on Tuesday.
Ouanaminthe will also face Moca FC in its next Caribbean Cup fixture on Wednesday, September 18, when it returns to the Dominican Republic.
