Race to semifinals intensifies in Caribbean Cup

MIAMI – The 2024 Concacaf Caribbean Cup continues as eight teams look to earn points in their hopes of lifting this year’s trophy.

A Tuesday doubleheader gets the action rolling this week with Ouanaminthe hosting Grenades followed by Port of Spain against Cibao.

Real Hope hosts Arnett Gardens on Wednesday before Police FC and Mount Pleasant conclude the week’s activities on Thursday.

Ouanaminthe FC vs. Grenades FC

Ouanaminthe FC hosts Grenades FC in Group B at Estadio Moca 85 in Moca, Dominican Republic.

Fredelin Philistin scored from a header inside the box as Ouanaminthe fell 3-1 at Moca FC last Wednesday. The Haitian side is 0-1-1 and last place in the group, but a victory would greatly help in its hopes to advance.

Sean Tomlinson scored in the 90’+5’ to rescue a point as Grenades tied 1-1 at AC Port of Spain last Tuesday. The Antigua and Barbuda club also arrives with a 0-1-1 record, second to last in the group, and seeks a victory to keep its semifinal hopes alive.

AC Port of Spain vs. Cibao FC

AC Port of Spain meets Cibao FC in Group B at Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva, Trinidad and Tobago.

Port of Spain seeks its first victory after being denied its first three points in a 1-1 home draw against Grenades. Shackiel Smek Henry scored in the previous encounter and leads the team’s scoring in the current campaign with two goals alongside John Paul Rochford.

Cibao FC looks to continue an undefeated start, 1-1-0, and stay inside the group's top two spots. Jean López and Eddipo Rodríguez scored to lead the club to a 2-1 win over Grenades on August 28, the club’s first victory of the campaign.

Miscellaneous Police FC vs. Mount Pleasant FA

Miscellaneous Police FC hosts Mount Pleasant FA in Group A at Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva, Trinidad and Tobago.

Police FC seeks a victory as it plays its final match of the group stage after earning its first pair of three points in a 2-1 victory over Arnett Gardens, where Ezekiel Kesar scored the match-winning goal. With a 1-1-1 record and four points, Police FC are currently third but look to a victory to help them withstand the final matchweek, in which they will sit idle.

Mount Pleasant FA are fourth in the group with a 1-0-1 record. Jahshaun Anglin and Kimoni Bailey led the club to its only victory of the campaign over Arnett Gardens on August 27.
