Águila defeats Port Layola for first win in Central American Cup

SANTA TECLA, El Salvador – C.D. Águila won 5-1 against Port Layola FC in the 2024 Concacaf Central American Cup on Wednesday at the Estadio Las Delicias in Santa Tecla, El Salvador.

Dionatan Machado struck with a left-footed hit inside the box in the 4' to place the hosts in the lead.

Machado doubled his tally in the 18' with a strike from the edge of the box to send the ball across the right netting.

Miguel Garcia had a left-footed hit of his own in the penalty area at the 34' mark to cut the deficit for the visitors.

Carlos Salazar slid in front of goal to connect with a pass by Santos Ortíz in the 35’ to retake a two-goal lead for the Salvadorans.

Salazar smashed a header at the edge of the goal area in the 37' to seal his brace, connecting with another service from Ortíz.

Herberth Díaz added a fifth for Águila in the 67' with a right-footed diagonal shot to the left bottom corner of goal.

The result gives Águila its first victory of the campaign and improves the club to four points in Group C. The Salvadoran side will meet CD Olimpia on August 22 and can claim the top of the group with another three points.

Port Layola FC continues searching for its first point after three encounters. The Belizean club will travel to face Club Atlético Independiente on August 21 in Panama City.
