PANAMA CITY – Cacique Diriangén FC won 2-1 against Tauro FC in the 2024 Central American Cup on Thursday at Estadio Rommel Fernández in Panama City, Panama.
Thanks to the victory, Diriangén keeps its chances alive of advancing to the knockout stage. The Nicaraguan side has accumulated seven points to keep pace for the top spot in Group A.
Ricardo Gorday had the first look for the home side in the 17’, following an attack down the left flank, but his attempt went above the crossbar.
Diriangén goalkeeper Alfonso Quesada denied Josué Vergara’s attempt inside the penalty area in the 45’+2 to keep the match scoreless at the halftime break.
Ronaldo Dinolis and Omar Browne had promising opportunities for Tauro FC in the 57’, but Quesada once again denied the hosts.
Junior Arteaga gave Diriangén the lead in the 59’ with a powerful shot to the top-right corner of the goal.
Cristian Quintero found the equalizer in the 74’ with a right-footed strike to the bottom-left corner following a pass from Yair Jaén.
Arteaga secured his brace and the match-winning goal for Diriangén in the 90’+3 from a free kick as the visitors took the full three points.
Cacique Diriangén FC played its final fixture and awaits the results from the remaining Group A matches to confirm its participation in the knockout round.
Tauro FC will close out its participation in the 2024 edition against fellow Panamanian side San Francisco FC on August 27 at the Estadio Rommel Fernández.
