Club Atlético Independiente, Port Layola FC to meet for the first time

MIAMI – The 2024 Central American Cup continues with its fourth week of competition on Wednesday, as the 20 best clubs continue competing to be crowned champions early in December.

The matchday will be highlighted by three first-time encounters.

Club Atlético Independiente vs. Port Layola FC

The day's opening match will see Club Atlético Independiente face Port Layola FC in Group C at the Estadio Rommel Fernández in Panama City, Panama.

After two losses, CAI will search for its first victory in what will be its first home game of the campaign. The Panamanian side will strive to extend a four-match unbeaten record at home, having registered three wins and a draw in their previous matchups.

Port Layola FC will enter its fourth match of the campaign in search of its first win. The defending champion of the Belize Premier League will seek to become the first team from its country to win a match in the tournament.

The matchup will be the first-ever between the two sides. Notably, it will mark the first time CAI plays a team from Belize, just as Port Layola will take on a Panamanian opponent for the first time.

The second match of the day will feature a first-ever meeting between AD Guanacasteca and Managua FC at the Estadio Edgardo Baltodano Briceño in Liberia, Costa Rica.

Guanacasteca will aim to collect its first win after losing its two opening matches. The team's last result, a 4-1 defeat against CSD Municipal, saw the team make history, as Jose Pablo Córdoba scored the first goal for Guanacasteca in the history of the Central American Cup.

Managua will look to bounce back after two recent defeats, following an initial 1-nil victory against Municipal in its tournament debut.
