SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador – C.D. Luis Ángel Firpo tied 1-1 with Comunicaciones FC in the second match Day of the 2024 Concacaf Central American Cup on Wednesday night at the Jorge "El Mágico" González National Stadium in San Salvador, El Salvador.
Carlos Mejía struck the opening goal in the 13', squeaking the ball between the left post and Firpo goalkeeper Wilberth Hernández.
Styven Vásquez had a header on goal in the 34' but it went into the hands of Comunicaciones goalkeeper Fredy Pérez.
Vásquez came closer to scoring on another header in the 42’ but was denied by Pérez, who used his feet to block the ball from crossing the goal line.
Gustavo Souza equalized for LA Firpo in the 47' with a strike from outside the box.
Alejandro Prieto struck from a free kick in the 62’ but his attempt was punched away by Hernández.
Diego Casas struck a header in the box in the 72’ but his shot was pushed over the goal by Hernández.
Erick Lémus hit the crossbar in the 74’ as he tried an attempt from outside of the box.
Vásquez attempted from outside the box for a winner in the 83’ but was denied by Pérez.
The result gives each side its first point of the campaign as Group B opened play. LA Firpo will host Alajuelense in its next encounter on Wednesday, August 7, while Comunicaciones will host Alianza on the same night.
