DIRIAMBA, Nicaragua – Cacique Diriangén FC earned a 2-1 victory over FC Motagua as part of the first matchday in the 2024 Concacaf Central American Cup on Tuesday night at the Cacique Diriangén Stadium in Diriamba, Nicaragua.

Accurate delivery was the theme of the night as all three goals generated from set pieces. The two teams traded corners before Diriangén decided the match off a short corner kick.

Justing Cano scored first in the 10' with a header towards the bottom right corner of the net. Matías Galvaliz provided the service to collect his first assist of the campaign.

Román Castillo attempted a low shot in the 31’ but Diriangén goalkeeper Alfonso Quesada was there for the save.

Leonel Torres had a shot towards goal in the 50’ but Motagua defender Raúl Santos lessened the potency of the shot before Jonathan Rougier made the capture. 

Héctor Castellanos was sent off in the 51’ leaving Motagua to finish the match down a man.

Luis Vega equalized with a header in the 63' to connect with a free kick service by Rodrigo Gómez.

Luis Copete scored the match-winner in the 89', striking a clean header on a service into the box from Anyelo Velásquez following a short corner.

The result gives Diriangén three points as Group A opened play. Both clubs will play their next match of the group on Wednesday, August 7 when Diriangén hosts CS Herediano with FC Motagua hosting San Francisco FC.
