SAN PEDRO SULA, Honduras – CD Marathón won 1-nil at home against Alianza FC in the 2024 Concacaf Central American Cup at the Estadio Olímpico Metropolitano in San Pedro Sula, Honduras.
The visitors registered more shots on target in the first half, leading six to one into halftime.
Francisco Martínez was sent off in the 44’ to leave the hosts with a man down for the remainder of the match.
Anyelo Rodríguez nearly placed Alianza in the lead in the 50’, striking from long-range to force a stop from Marathón goalkeeper Luis Ortíz.
Ángel Tejeda gave Marathón the lead in the 66’ with a right-footed finish inside the box following a quick counterattack down the left flank.
Alianza had one more opportunity to find the equalizer in 86’, with a header from Mauro Osores following a corner kick, but the attempt was controlled by Ortíz.
With the win, Marathón improved to six points from its four fixtures and overtook Alianza to finish in third place in Group B.
Alianza closed out its participation in the 2024 edition in fourth place with three points.
