TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras – FC Motagua won 4-1 against Tauro FC in the 2024 Central American Cup on Thursday at the Estadio Nacional Chelato Uclés in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
The visitors were down to ten men in the 38’ when Tauro defender Luis Asprilla was shown a red card.
Rubilio Castillo gave the hosts the lead in the 45’ with a finish inside the box after a Motagua build up from the right wing.
Substitute Yeison Mejía immediately impacted the second half, extending Motagua’s lead in the 59’ with a tidy finish inside the box.
Mejía would secure his brace in the match in the 63’ with a great shot to the far post inside the opponent’s box.
Tauro midfielder Moisés Véliz got the visitors on the scoresheet in the 81’, taking advantage of a loose ball outside the box to beat the goalkeeper with a low strike to the near post, scoring the team’s first goal in the 2024 edition.
Rodrigo Auzmendi struck in the second minute of added time to score the last goal of the match and secure a 4-1 win for Motagua.
With the victory, Motagua has now recorded six points in three games and sits first in Group A on goal difference. Motagua will face Costa Rican side CS Herediano away on August 28, with first place at stake.
Tauro continues searching for its first victory after two matches. The Panamanian side’s next challenge will be at home against Nicaraguan outfit Cacique Diriangén FC on August 22.
