Morán, Campos, Gómez lead Concacaf Central American Cup quarterfinals Best XI

MIAMI – The 2024 Concacaf Central American Cup concluded the quarterfinals as four clubs move on to the semifinals. Many players delivered outstanding performances, yet these eleven stood out the most in their respective positions.

Here is a look at the 2024 Concacaf Central American Cup Best XI for the quarterfinals stage:

Goalkeeper

Luis Morán, Antigua GFC – The Guatemalan goalkeeper posted two clean sheets as Antigua was the only side that did not allow any goals during the quarterfinals. Morán also had nine save, the most by any goalkeeper to begin the knockout round.

Defenders

Ángel Díaz, Antigua GFC – One of the members of the back line performing at the highest level to help Antigua advance to semifinals without allowing a goal. Diaz played the full 90 minutes in both legs of the series and recorded two ball recoveries and five clearances.

José Ardón, Antigua GFC – The captain of the Guatemalan side continued with his stellar campaign and returns to another Best XI after a stellar group stage. Ardón was key in Antigua’s two clean sheets in the quarterfinals, contributing three ball recoveries and seven clearances.

Keyner Brown, CS Herediano - Herediano advanced to semifinals undefeated in part due to the Brown’s contributions. The center back was a rock at the back for the Costa Ricans in the quarterfinals, registering three ball recoveries and nine clearances. Brown was also very accurate on the ball with a 90% pass completion rate.

Jesús Rubio, CS Herediano – Rubio stood out both on defensive and offensive to help Herediano seal a semifinals berth and extend its all-time unbeaten record in the tournament to 14. The Mexican defender contributed two ball recoveries and two clearances, while also adding a goal.

Midfielders

Juan Vieyra, Real Estelí FC – The Argentine was an engine in midfield as Real Estelí advanced to semifinals unbeaten claiming a win and a draw. Vieyra contributed a goal and also tallied three shots and a ball recovery to help the 2023 runner up return to semifinals.

Celso Borges, LD Alajuelense – The Costa Rican midfielder made Central American Cup quarterfinals by becoming the player with most appearances (16) and most victories (12). Borges concluded the quarterfinals as the player with most successful passes (127) and contributed an assist and four ball recoveries.

Anderson Cardoso, LD Alajuelense – The Brazilian was one of the main men in Alajuelense’s midfield, playing the full 180 minutes in the quarterfinal’s series, contributing a goal, and completing 88.73% of his passes.

Forwards

Diego Campos, LD Alajuelense – Campos added a goal to take his tournament-leading tally to six and was a constant threat in attack for the reigning champions with five shots over the two legs. The versatile Costa Rican attacker also contributed defensively, registering four ball recoveries and three clearances.

Byron Bonilla, Real Estelí FC – The Nicaraguan attacker continued to be one of the main threats offensively for Real Estelí’s in the quarterfinals, adding a goal in the first leg to increase his team-leading tally to four goal contributions in the competition.

Santiago Gómez, Antigua GFC- Gómez had an important brace in Antigua’s 3-nil win in the second leg against Saprissa to reach four goals in the competition and sit second amongst the tournament’s top scorers.
