ANTIGUA, Guatemala – CSD Municipal won 3-1 against AD Guanacasteca in the 2024 Central American Cup on Thursday at the Estadio Pensativo in Antigua, Guatemala.
Rudy Barrientos gave the home side the lead in the 16’, beating the keeper with a powerful long-range strike.
José Córdoba then equalized for Guanacasteca in the 51’ with a left-footed shot from a free-kick outside the box.
Municipal regained the lead in the 64’ through an own goal by Guanacasteca goalkeeper Antonny Monreal.
José Martínez scored Municipal’s third and final goal in the 90'+6 with a tidy chip over the goalkeeper.
Municipal earned the first win of its campaign and now has four points in Group D. The Guatemalan side will visit Deportivo Saprissa on August 29 in San José, Costa Rica.
Guanacasteca continues to search for its first-ever Central American Cup win when the club hosts Managua FC on August 24 in Liberia, Costa Rica.
