SAN JUÁN DE TIBÁS, Costa Rica – Deportivo Saprissa earned a 5-nil victory over AD Guanacasteca in the second matchday in the 2024 Concacaf Central American Cup on Wednesday night at the Ricardo Saprissa Stadium in San Juan de Tibás, Costa Rica.

Javon East opened the scoring in the 1' with a left-footed strike inside the box.

Joaquín Hernández struck a shot from inside the penalty arc in the 9’ but was denied by Saprissa goalkeeper Esteban Alvarado, who had three saves and ended the night with the clean sheet.

Hernández nearly had the equalizer in the 18’, striking in front of goal, but was denied by the crossbar.

Luis Díaz stuck inside the penalty area in the 27' to double the lead for the home side.

Orlando Sinclair completed a Saprissa counterattack in the 45'+1 to give the team a three-goal lead before the half.

Saprissa was down to ten players in the 62’ when Kendall Waston received a second yellow card.

Guanacasteca was reduced to ten players themselves in the 69’ as Sergio Rodríguez also received a second booking.

Jefferson Brenes struck from long distance in the 70' to extend the Saprissa lead off a free kick.

Mariano Torres added a fifth for the Costa Rican champions in the 84’, striking a second time after being blocked on the first.

The result gives Saprissa three points and first place in Group D. Saprissa will travel to face Managua in a meeting of the two teams in their group on Tuesday, August 6 while Guanacasteca travels to Municipal on Thursday, August 15.
