MANAGUA, Nicaragua – Deportivo Saprissa won 3-2 over Managua FC in the 2024 Concacaf Central American Cup on Tuesday night at the National Stadium in Managua, Nicaragua.

The two clubs met for the first time in the Central American Cup. The encounter also pitted the two top teams in Group D as both clubs began their respective campaigns with three points.

Edward Morillo opened the scoring in the 30' with a right-footed strike inside the box.

Javon East tied the encounter in the 39' by pouncing on a second chance inside the goal area.

Juan Barrera retook the lead for the hosts in the 43' with a left-footed shot in the box.

Jefferson Brenes equalized for the visitors in the 74' with a right-footed shot from a free kick attempt

Saprissa took the full three points on a last gasp attempt in the 90’+10 that came from an Alyer López own goal. Jefferson Brenes shot from distance but was denied by the left post, rebounding off the Managua goalkeeper and into the net.

With the result, Saprissa extends its lead at the top of Group D on six points. The Costa Rican club will return to Nicaragua on Tuesday, August 20 for its next encounter against Real Esteli.

Managua FC will head to Costa Rica on Wednesday, August 21 to face AD Guanacasteca.
