SAN JUAN DE TIBÁS, Costa Rica – Deportivo Saprissa won 3-1 against Comunicaciones FC in the second leg of their series in the Play-In round of the 2024 Concacaf Central American Cup on Tuesday at Estadio Ricardo Saprissa in San Juan de Tibás, Costa Rica.
Saprissa won the series 4-2 on aggregate to secure a spot in the 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup. The Costa Rican club will make its 38th participation in Concacaf’s premier club tournament.
Mariano Torres opened the scoring to give the hosts the lead in the 34’ through a powerful left-footed strike from outside the box on an assist from Luis Díaz.
Javon East doubled Saprissa’s lead in the 57’ with a right-footed finish inside the box. Ariel Rodríguez picked up the assist on what would be the series-winning goal.
Díaz got his name on the scoresheet to extend Saprissa’s lead in the 75’ with a right-footed strike to the far post from the right end of the opponent’s box.
Azarías Londoño shortened the deficit for Comunicaciones in the 83’ as the Guatemalan club exited the tournament with a defeat.
