Vega, Walker shine as Estelí and Herediano draw in first leg of CAC semifinal

ESTELÍ, Nicaragua – Real Estelí FC drew nil-nil with CS Herediano in the first leg of their series in the semifinals of the 2024 Concacaf Central American Cup on Thursday at Estadio Independencia in Estelí, Nicaragua.

The visitors came close to scoring first in the 37’ through an attempt from Emerson Bravo inside the box that was stopped by Estelí goalkeeper Jason Vega.

Josué Quijano nearly gave Estelí the lead in the 73’ with a right-footed curler that bounced off the woodwork.

Byron Bonilla had a struck inside the box in the 85’ but his attempt was met by a save from Herediano goalkeeper Anthony Walker.

Both goalkeepers shined with strong performances to secure their respective clean sheets. Vega finished the match with five saves for Real Estelí, while Walker registered six saves for Herediano.

Real Estelí and Herediano meet again next Thursday in Cosa Rica for the second leg. The winner, on aggregate, will secure a spot in the 2024 Concacaf Central American Cup Final.
