CCL 2014-15 Update: 11 teams in, 13 more to go

MIAMI – The process to determine CONCACAF’s representative at the 2015 FIFA Club World Cup is in full swing as 11 of the eventual 24 qualifiers for the 2014-15 CONCACAF Champions League are already known.

On Sunday evening, Alajuelense became the latest team to book a place in the seventh edition of the confederation’s annual club championship, when it overcame Herediano 5-3 on penalty kicks after their Costa Rican Invierno final ended 0-0 after two legs.

From an historical perspective, Isidro Metapan (El Salvador) became the first team to qualify for every edition of the competition. Olimpia (Honduras) is the only other side possessing the potential to match that mark.

The 2014-15 tournament will also see Leon (Mexico) and the Portland Timbers (USA) make their debuts.

With 13 coveted CCL berths still at stake, the first five months of 2014 promise a football feast for fans throughout the region.
