CIUDAD DE MEXICO, MEXICO Cruz Azul are through to the next round of the 2021 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League after posting a 8-0 victory over Arcahaie of Haiti in the second leg of the Round of 16 on Tuesday night at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, Mexico.

The result earned Cruz Azul a 8-0 victory on aggregate and a berth in the SCCL quarterfinals for the second consecutive year.

Cruz Azul hit the ground running and led 1-0 inside of three minutes when Alexis Gutierrez took advantage of a loose ball in front of goal.



 

The momentum stayed with Cruz Azul and it was 2-0 in the 11’ when Yoshimar Yotun smacked a header into net off a cross.

Elias Hernandez then added his name to the scoresheet in the 25’ with a right-footed volley to make it a 3-0 contest.

Cruz Azul kept their foot on the gas and extended the lead to 4-0 in the 49’ when a defensive error from Arcahaie allowed for Santiago Gimenez to feed Walter Montoya, who stroked in a right-footed finish.

Gimenez got to play provider again to help Cruz Azul push their advantage to 5-0 in the 61’ by evading a pair of defenders before cutting back to Josue Reyes, who fired into net.

The Gimenez-Montoya connection would bear fruit again in the 64’, as Gimenez earned his third assist for Montoya’s goal to make it 6-0.

Bryan Angulo was next to get into the action and scored in the 69’ for a 7-0 lead, before Juan Escobar capped the 8-0 scoreline in the 76’ with a strike from outside the area.
