SANTA TECLA, El Salvador – Santa Tecla announced Sunday that El Salvador international Gerson Mayen will rejoin the team after spending the 2017 Apertura with Ascenso MX side Cafetaleros de Tapachula.

For slightly more than four years, Mayen competed for the three-time Salvadoran champion before leaving for Mexico in July.  With Cafertaleros, the 28-year-old scored one goal in nine matches.

Mayen has scored two goals in his 28 games for El Salvador.  He has played in the CONCACAF Gold Cup (2013: 2 games/0 goals; 2017: 4/1 goal v Curacao) and the Copa Centroamericana (2013: 2/0; 2017: 5/1 v Belize).

In five career Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League (SCCL) games (1 with FAS, 4 with Santa Tecla), Mayen has yet to score.

Santa Tecla will open play in the 2018 SCCL against Round of 16 opponent Seattle Sounders FC (1st leg: February 22, home; 2nd leg: March 1, away).
