SAN JOSE, Costa Rica – English Premier League’s Fulham will start a three-game tour of Costa Rica on Sunday, when it faces 2013-14 CONCACAF Champions League qualifier Cartagines. The Blues will be the first-ever side from Costa Rica to play a match against an English team on Costa Rican soil.
All three matches are scheduled to take place at the Estadio Nacional.
The second opponent for Fulham will be Alajuelense, another qualifier for this season’s Champions League. The July 17th match will be a homecoming for the Cottagers’ Bryan Ruiz, who started his professional career as a player for the Manudos, before making the leap to Europe in 2006 to join Belgian side Gent. The 27-year-old has been with Fulham since the start of the 2011-12 season.
Fulham’s tour closes on July 20 against traditional power Saprissa. ‘La S’ is in full preparation for the upcoming domestic season, but has missed out on the Champions League for a third straight season.
On Friday, Fulham announced that the club was sold to Shahid Khan, the CEO of Flex-N-Gate Group.
