MIAMI, Florida – The field is complete for the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup, which begins next February with 27 teams in pursuit of winning the regional crown.

Here are some interesting facts and figures on the tournament history.

30 champions

Through 58 editions of the Champions Cup, there have been 30 different champions, with Mexico’s Club Leon becoming the latest first-time winner when they took home the crown in 2023.

7 titles

Mexican giants Club America are the most decorated team in the Champions Cup, with seven titles (1977, 1987, 1990, 1992, 2006, 2014-15, 2015-16).

3 champions from MLS

Three teams from Major League Soccer have captured the Champions Cup crown. DC United in 1998, Los Angeles Galaxy in 2000 and the Seattle Sounders in 2022. Nine MLS teams will compete in the 2024 edition.

37 appearances

No team in the 2024 Champions Cup boast more appearances in the tournament that Deportivo Saprissa of Costa Rica, who will participate for the 37th time in the Champions Cup in 2024.

2 ‘three-peats’

Winning one Champions Cup title is difficult, let along going back-to-back. However, winning three straight Champions Cup crowns is among the most elite of achievements. Two teams have done it; Mexican sides Cruz Azul (1969-71) and 2024 participants Monterrey, who won their three consecutive titles in 2010-11, 2011-12 and 2012-13.

4 Caribbean champions

In the history of the tournament, four teams from the Caribbean have taken home the trophy. Transvaal of Suriname (1973, 1981) and Defence Force of Trinidad and Tobago (1978, 1985) each won it twice. Racing Club Haitien was the first Caribbean champion in 1963. Another Haitian club, Violette, were champions in 1985. Three teams from the Caribbean are in the 2024 edition: Robinhood (SUR), Moca (DOM) and Cavalier (JAM).

3 Costa Rican champions

Six Champions Cup titles have been won by three clubs hailing from Costa Rica. 2024 participants Saprissa (1993, 1995, 2005) and Alajuelense (1986, 2004) have the most with three and two crowns, respectively, while Cartagines (1994) have one. Costa Rica is the Central American country with the most titles.

16 consecutive years

The most Champions Cup titles come from Mexican clubs, including a run of 16 straight years from 2006-21 that the winner hailed from seven different Liga MX clubs. Six Liga MX clubs will compete in the 2024 tournament.

7th minute

The very first goal in Champions Cup history came in the seventh minute of the first match of the inaugural edition in 1962. Guillermo Palomo of Comunicaciones tallied the historic goal in his team’s 1-1 draw with Aguila of El Salvador. Comunicaciones will make their 28th Champions Cup appearance in 2024.

7 debutants in 2024

Of the 27 participating clubs in the 2024 Champions Cup, seven will be appearing in the tournament for the first time; Inter Miami (USA), Nashville SC (USA), FC Cincinnati (USA), St. Louis City SC (USA), Cavalry FC (CAN), Cavalier SC (JAM), Moca FC (DOM)

5 runner-up finishes

No team has more runner-up finishes in Champions Cup history than Robinhood of Suriname. They came second in the 1972, 1976, 1977, 1982 and 1983 editions. Robinhood are back in the Champions Cup in 2024 for the first time since the 1994 tournament.

7 Canadian clubs

Seven teams from Canada have previously competed in the Champions Cup: Serbian White Eagles, Toronto Italia, Vancouver 86ers, CF Montreal, Toronto FC, Vancouver Whitecaps, Forge FC. Cavalry will become the eighth different Canadian club in 2024.

4 Central American countries

Four different Central American countries have been home to Champions Cup winners. Costa Rica leads the way with six titles across three clubs (Saprissa, Alajuelense, Cartagines), followed by El Salvador with three titles from three clubs (FAS, Aguila, Alianza), Guatemala with two titles from two clubs (Comunicaciones, Municipal) and Honduras with two titles from one club (Olimpia). Six Central American teams will compete in the 2024 edition: Alajuelense (CRC), Real Esteli (NCA), CAI (PAN), Herediano (CRC), Saprissa (CRC) and Comunicaciones (GUA).
