SACRAMENTO, California – In a preseason battle of Mexican CONCACAF Champions League qualifiers, two-time defending Liga MX champion Leon defeated Club America 3-1 on Wednesday in front of 15,975 fans at Raley Field.

After a Carlos Peña header staked Leon to a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute, Luis Gabriel Rey struck in a third straight friendly to equalize for the Aguilas shortly before half time.

The Fiera netted twice more in the second half through Mauro Boselli (75’) and a Paolo Goltz own-goal with three minutes remaining in normal time.

Leon will host Club America in the 2014 Mexican Apertura opener for each on July 19.
