MIAMI, Florida – It has been a scorching start to life in the 2022 Liga MX Clausura for 2022 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League side Pumas, as the Mexico City club stayed unbeaten with a 3-1 win at Queretaro.

Just four days after downing Toluca 5-0, Pumas now have eight goals in just two games after Friday’s win against the Gallos Blancos. After conceding an Angel Sepulveda opener in the 4’ to the home side, Pumas roared back with three unanswered goals to claim the three points.

Leonel Lopez started the run of goals with an exquisite left-footed finish in the 16’ to make it 1-1. Marco Garcia then handed Pumas their first lead, 2-1, with a right-footed rocket just before halftime in the 45’.

A sending off for Alan Mozo gave Queretaro hope, but Pumas would shut the door three minutes later in the 68’ through Rogerio, whose right-footed shot completed the 3-1 scoreline.

Earning their second win in as many games was fellow 2022 SCCL side Cruz Azul, who edged Juarez 1-0.

After scoring in his Cruz Azul debut in last week’s 2-0 victory over Club Tijuana, 2021 SCCL champion Carlos Rodriguez tallied his second goal with La Maquina in what was the lone score of the game. Uriel Antuna pounced on a misplayed pass from Juarez and quickly fed Rodriguez, who took a touch and fired into net.

2021 Liga MX Apertura finalists and 2022 SCCL side Club Leon opened their domestic campaign with a 1-1 draw at Club Tijuana.

A defensive error allowed Club Leon’s Victor Davila to break the deadlock in the 23’ and give the visitors a 1-0 lead, but Xolos would respond in the second half and earn a 1-1 draw through Lucas Rodriguez in the 59’.

The fourth Liga MX side slotted to compete in the 2022 SCCL was also in action over the weekend, as Santos Laguna fell 3-1 to Toluca.

It started well for the Torreon club, with Brian Lozano serving up an inch-perfect free kick for Ayrton Preciado, who volleyed home to make it 1-0 in the 22’. However, after that it was all Toluca, with Daniel Alvarez (41’), Leonardo Fernandez (56’) and Diego (80’) delivering goals for the home side.
