MORELIA, Mexico – As a head coach, Victor Manuel Vucetich is unbeaten in seven all-time Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions quarterfinal games. He compiled an enviable 5W-1D-0L record with Monterrey, before leading his current club, Queretaro, to a 2-0 win over visiting D.C. United last week.

With the second leg against the MLS side slated for Tuesday in Washington, D.C.., the former Mexico manager rested many of his regulars during Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Morelia in a 2016 Liga MX Clausura encounter.

The Gallos Blancos jumped out to a 1-0 lead against the Monarcas thanks to a 10th-minute goal by Luis Noriega, only for Pedro Velasquez to level for the host in the last minute of normal time.

Despite dropping two points late, Vucetich was pleased with the overall performance.

"We did a good job from start to finish,” he said after game. “We have a participation with CONCACAF within three days, so we had to rotate. We had to look for another lineup with other players. I think the players responded very well and it gives a calm feeling that the majority of the players are giving a very good response.”

Queretaro is currently three points off the pace for place in the Liga MX playoffs, but Vucetich is keeping his focus squarely on another international success.

“We are continuing to make the CONCACAF tournament the priority,” finished the 60-year-old.
