Chivas in control as Forge come to town for second leg

Published on

MIAMI, Florida – Mexican giants Chivas will look to remain in control in their 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup Round One series against Canadian Premier League Side Forge FC when they meet in the second leg on Tuesday night at the Estadio Akron in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Chivas captured a 3-1 victory in the first leg last week thanks in large part to the play of Cade Cowell, who scored a pair of goals and had an assist to lead the way for the Mexican side.

Chivas improved their record against Canadian opposition in Champions Cup play to 7W-1D-1L with last week’s win and will be looking to do the same on Tuesday.

In their history, Chivas have a very good record of 2W-1D-1L in second leg matches of the knockout phase of Champions Cup tournaments, and for certain they can advance with either a win, draw or a defeat by a one-goal margin.

In addition to Cowell, Ricardo Marin and Mateo Chavez delivered big performances last week, with Marin scoring off the Cowell assist and Chavez completing 62 of 70 passes.

Forge FC will be playing in their second match in Mexico in Champions Cup play and do have a history of finding the back of the net away to Mexican opposition, as David Choiniere scored in their 2022 Round of 16 second leg at Cruz Azul.

Terran Campbell was the player that scored for Forge in last week’s first leg and no doubt he’ll be looking to add to that total on Tuesday.

Tristan Borges supplied the assist on the Campbell goal, while team captain Kyle Bekker had the most passes of any Forge player with 69.
