MEXICO CITY – Club America earned a 5-2 victory, advancing 9-2 on aggregate, over the New England Revolution in the second leg of the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup Quarterfinals on Tuesday night at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City.
Diego Valdes opened the scoring for the home side in the 21’, bringing down the ball in the box and sending it into the back netting with a left footed hit.
Julian Quiñones extended the lead in the 34' with a right footed touch in the box.
Henry Martin put the third on the board in the 45'+4, putting a header on a cross from Luis Fuentes to make it 3-0 prior to halftime.
Alejandro Zendejas added a fourth in the 57', connecting on a pass from Quiñones inside the penalty area.
Giacomo Vrioni took one back for the visitors in the 65' with a header across goal from a New England corner kick.
Brian Rodriguez converted a penalty kick in the 76' to restore a four-goal lead for the hosts. Rodríguez then sealed his brace at the 87th minute.
Vrioni earned his brace in the 90’+3 with a left-footed hit at the far post to meet the service from Esmir Bajraktarevic.
Club America advance to its eight semifinals appearance and maintains a perfect success rate in the quarterfinals. The Mexico City club awaits the winner of the Pachuca and Herediano series, which the former leads 5-0, to be decided on Wednesday.
