MIAMI, Florida – The New England Revolution of Major League Soccer (MLS) will look to close out their 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup Round of 16 series with Costa Rican side Alajuelense when they face off in the second leg on Thursday night at the Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto in Alajuela, Costa Rica.

New England were superb in the first leg at home, claiming a 4-0 victory against the Ticos thanks in large part to a brace from Tomas Chancalay and a goal and an assist from Nick Lima.

The team set a club record for the most goals in a Champions Cup match and also recorded their third straight clean sheet in the tournament.

The Revolution will now attempt to reach their first Champions Cup quarterfinal since 2022 against an Alajuelense side that will try to evoke memories from 2003 when they defeated the Revolution 4-0 in a Champions Cup match at home.

The 2023 Concacaf Central American champions will turn to their top attacking talents to try to turn the tables on New England.

Joel Campbell is always a threat and scored three goals last fall in the Central American Cup, while creative midfielder Aaron Suarez will need to summon his best football to get Alajuelense on the scoreboard early and often.

The Revolution arrive into the contest with the luxury of a four-cushion, and with a goal they would force Alajuelense to need six goals to advance.

In addition to the heroics of Chancalay and Lima in the first leg, the Revolution got a big contribution from 18-year-old FW Esmir Bajraktarevic, who also scored in the first leg and had an assist in the previous round.

Those three players and more will be out to make sure the Revolution do not have to contend with a nervy return leg.
