SAN JOSE, Costa Rica – Pachuca achieved its first result on Costa Rican soil with a 4-0 win in the first leg of their 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup Quarterfinal series against Herediano on Wednesday night at the National Stadium in San Jose, Costa Rica.
Salomon Rondon opened the scoring in the 3’ with a right-footed strike from the edge of the penalty arc. Nelson Deossa advanced the play in midfield prior to supplying the Venezuelan with a forward pass.
Rondon doubled his tally in the 16’ with a hit next to the penalty marker. Bryan Gonzalez provided the assist from the left side of the box.
Haxzel Quiros had an attempt from midfield in the 37’ but Pachuca goalkeeper Carlos Moreno averted any danger.
Elias Aguilar had a shot from distance in the 46’ as the home side looked to be more aggressive in the second half.
Allan Cruz had a header in the box in the 53’ but was denied by Moreno.
Alexei Dominguez extended the lead by three in the 55’ as he dribbled a short corner into the box and hit a laser to the right-side netting. The 19-year-old subbed on two minutes prior to score his first CCC goal.
Rondon completed his hat-trick in the 68’ with a smashing hit a few steps from the goal line. Oussama Idrissi was the assist man on this occasion after advancing the play through the left flank.
Gerson Torres came off the bench and had a menacing attempt from long distance in the 63’, forcing a save from Moreno.
Idrissi orchestrated a fifth goal for Pachuca as he found 21-year-old Alan Bautista in the 90’.
Pachuca will host Herediano in the second leg next Wednesday at Estadio Hidalgo in Pachuca, Mexico.
