KINGSTON, Jamaica – Inter Miami CF secured their place in the 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup quarterfinals after defeating Cavalier FC 2-0 on Thursday at the National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica.
Inter Miami CF won 2-nil at home in the opening encounter in Fort Lauderdale, Florida last Thursday.
Luis Suárez converted a penalty kick attempt in the 37' to place the U.S. side in front and extend its lead on aggregate by three.
IMCF manager Javier Mascherano was forced to make an early substitution. David Ruiz exited the match due to injury in the 17’, and Benjamin Cremaschi stepped in his place.
Suárez and Sergio Busquets came off in the 53’ to make way for Lionel Messi and Yannick Bright, respectively. Messi returned to the field after resting in the first leg as well as two league bouts for The Herons.
Kaile Auvray struck in the box in the 74’ as the reigning Concacaf Caribbean Cup winners pushed forward hopes of tying, but Óscar Ustari made the save to maintain the Inter Miami clean sheet.
Messi scored his third goal of the campaign in the 90'+2 to put a bow on the victory in the closing moments. Santiago Morales provided the through ball to collect the assist.
The series win sets up an all-MLS encounter between Inter Miami CF and Los Angeles FC in the quarterfinals.
