MIAMI, Florida – Liga MX side Tigres and Orlando City SC of Major League Soccer (MLS) will meet yet again on Tuesday night, as they decide their 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup Round of 16 series in the second leg at the Estadio Universitario in San Nicolas de los Garza, Mexico.

These two teams have quickly established a fierce rivalry after just three overall meetings. In the 2023 Round of 16, a 0-0 first leg draw in Mexico was followed by a 1-1 second leg draw in Orlando, giving Tigres the series win via the away goal tiebreaker.

Last week in this year’s Round of 16 first leg, the two sides played to a scrappy 0-0 draw in Orlando, meaning that something has to give in Tuesday’s return leg in Mexico.

Tigres have won nine of their last 14 Champions Cup matches and have suffered just one defeat in that span, a 3-1 loss in last year’s semifinals to Club Leon.

The Felinos will be out to flex some of their goalscoring muscles, led by decorated striker Andre-Pierre Gignac, who has 17 career Champions Cup goals and has seven shots in this Champions Cup so far.

Rafael Carioca has been a workhorse in the middle of the park, completing 96 passes in the first leg, while GK Nahuel Guzman has registered two straight clean sheets after last week’s scoreless draw, giving him 18 career Champions Cup clean sheets.

Orlando City will attempt to reach their first ever Champions Cup quarterfinal with either a win or a goal-scoring draw and will be leaning on attacking players such as Facundo Torres, Luis Muriel and Nicolas Lodeiro.

Torres completed 94 percent of his passes last week and has two goals in the tournament. Lodeiro is an accomplished Champions Cup player, with eight goals and five assists in 12 appearances, while new arrival and striker Muriel was a threat in taking a shot and completing 17 passes.
