VANCOUVER, Canada – The Vancouver Whitecaps announced on Monday the acquisition of Peru international Yordy Reyna from Austrian Bundesliga champion FC Red Bull Salzburg.

The 23-year-old agreed to a two-year contract, with club options for 2019 and 2020.

"Reyna is an exciting, hard-working, young talent, and we are thrilled to add him to our club," said Whitecaps head coach Carl Robinson. "He's very direct with the ball, he can make the final pass, and he can score goals. He has all the attributes we want."

Reyna scored 14 goals in 41 appearances over three plus seasons in the Austrian Bundesliga with FC Red Bull Salzburg and SV Grödig (loan). During his time with FC Salzburg, he twice won both the Austrian Bundesliga tile and the Austrian Cup crown in the same season (2013/14, 2015/16).

The 5-foot-7 attacker has also competed in three UEFA Champions League games and nine UEFA Europa League matches.

In 2011, Reyna made his professional debut with Peruvian Primera División side Alianza Lima.

He has also scored two goals in 17 games for Peru.

The Whitecaps will kick-off their 2017 campaign with a Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal, first-leg match at the New York Red Bulls on February 22.
