TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras – Honduras Under-21 Head Coach and CONCACAF Technical Commission Member Carlos Tabora believes that the Scotiabank CONCACAF League is raising the level of play within the region.
Speaking exclusively with CONCACAF.com, Tabora hailed the installment of the SCL, which is now in its second season.
“I think the appearance of the CONCACAF League has elevated the footballing level of the region,” said Tabora.
“The only way to grow is to compete at an international level in these tournaments and this tournament serves that purpose. The CONCACAF League has a competitive level that is very interesting and I think it generates a good stimulus for competition that helps the footballers,” added Tabora.
Earlier this summer Tabora led the Honduran Under-21 team at the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games to a third-place finish, earning a bronze medal.
For Tabora, it was a fulfilling way to train and work with Honduras’ emerging stars.
“It was a gratifying experience. It was a group of players born in 1999 and I think we achieved great things. We had a concept of play and we could see the response of the players. It’s a young group and the job they did makes us very happy,” said Tabora.
In particular, Tabora highlighted the performance of leading scorer Douglas Martinez, who scored three goals during the tournament.
“I would single out his footballing level, his talent. He has progressed a lot. He has tactical discipline, technical quality, vision and knows the concept of attacking. He knows how to create spaces, generate play and has a vision of collective play,” said Tabora.
And should the Honduran Football Federation look to Tabora to fill the role of Senior Men’s National Team Head Coach, the 53-year-old says he would be happy to help in any way he could.
“A person always aspires to work in a such a great position as its country’s national team head coach, but it will come in God’s time, not Carlos Tabora’s. However, I’m ready for any opportunity,” concluded Tabora.
