Kevin Lopez, Anangono highlight 2021 SCL Team Of The Tournament

MIAMI, Florida – The 2021 Scotiabank Concacaf League is in the books after Guatemala’s Comunicaciones defeated Motagua of Honduras 6-3 on aggregate in the Final.

The tournament will be remembered for a number of excellent performances from players around the region. Here is a look at the 2021 SCL Team Of The Tournament.

GK Kevin Moscoso, Comunicaciones – Moscoso took home the 2021 SCL Best Goalkeeper Award for his excellent performance throughout the tournament. Moscoso started in nine of the team’s 10 matches in the tournament and led the 2021 SCL in saves with 34. The 28-year-old conceded just 10 goals and also registered three clean sheets during the tournament.

DF Marcelo Pereira, Motagua – Motagua reached their third SCL Final in four years and Pereira was a big part of that effort. The 26-year-old appeared in eight games and had 26 clearances to go along with nine steals. Pereira also scored a goal and completed more than 89 percent of his passes.

DF Alexander Robinson, Comunicaciones – The Comunicaciones attack drew the headlines, but the defense also played a big role and Robinson was the key cog in that wheel, with 16 clearances in four games played. Robinson also had seven steals and registered three shots, plus completed over 90 percent of his passes.

DF Omar Dominguez, Guastatoya – Guastatoya qualified for the 2022 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League thanks in part to Dominguez, who was a crucial part of Guastatoya’s massive win over 2020 SCL champions Alajuelense in the Round of 16 by scoring the team’s first goal in their 2-2 second leg draw. Dominguez also had 23 clearances and nine steals in four games.

MF Oscar Santis, Comunicaciones – Given the 2021 SCL Youth Revelation Award, the 22-year-old Comunicaciones MF started all 10 of the Guatemalan club’s matches in the tournament. The Guatemala international scored three goals, including a hat trick in Comunicaciones’ narrow 4-3 quarterfinal first leg defeat to Costa Rica’s Deportivo Saprissa.

MF Molham Babouli, Forge FC – The Canadian Premier League side qualified for the SCCL for the first time in club history thanks in part to Babouli. The 28-year-old notched three goals and collected two assists, while being one of the tournament’s leaders in shots taken with 12.

MF Kevin Lopez, Motagua – Lopez was the field general for Motagua in their arrival to the Final and the 25-year-old enjoyed a very good performance in the Final second leg with two assists. Lopez finished the 2021 SCL with three goals from 19 shots and four assists to go along with nine steals.

MF Osvaldo Rodriguez, Santos de Guapiles – The Tico side will play in their first SCCL as one of the top six finishers in the 2021 SCL and Rodriguez had a big part in that. The 30-year-old right winger was a force on both ends, with two goals and four assists in attack, while amassing four steals and two clearances in defense.

FW Junior Lacayo, Comunicaciones – Lacayo appeared in all 10 of Comunicaciones’ matches and scored four goals on seven shots in just 372 minutes played. Lacayo scored a goal in each leg of Comunicaciones’ 3-1 aggregate win over Alianza of El Salvador in the Round of 16.

FW Juan Anangono, Comunicaciones – The 32-year-old Ecuadorian attacker started all 10 of Comunicaciones’ matches during the tournament, finishing as the 2021 SCL top scorer with six goals and also earning the Best Player Award. Anangono had a hand in all six of Comunicaciones’ goals in the Final, scoring four and assisting on the other two.

FW Andres Lezcano, Comunicaciones – Lezcano finished as the second-leading scorer with five goals, notching goals in ever round except for the Final. Lezacno made his biggest mark in the semifinals with a goal in each leg against Guastatoya. All told, Lezcano concluded the 2021 SCL with five goals, three assists, seven shots, two clearances and one steal in 10 games.
