SAN PEDRO SULA, Honduras – After not reaching the final of the 2018 Clausura, Real Espana immediately changed its focus to the 2018 Scotiabank Concacaf League.
The Honduran club qualified for the second edition of the SCL thanks to their title-winning campaign in the 2017 Apertura.
Real Espana’s participation in the SCL will also mark its return to the Concacaf club competition, with their previous appearance coming in the 2014-15 edition of the Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League.
Real Espana Head Coach Martin Garcia spoke about the challenges that lie ahead for the Aurinegros as they begin their preparation for the SCL.
"We have to analyze, it is not convenient to talk with enthusiasm, we have to prepare ourselves for what is coming," Garcia said.
It promises to be three very busy months for Garcia and his players before the start of the SCL.
Real Espana will find out its opponent in the SCL Round of 16 on May 23 when the draw takes place in Miami, Florida, and then will seek to strengthen the squad for the SCL and 2018 Apertura.
"We will analyze, I cannot say anything now, there are always new hires and players leaving, that's normal at the end of the season, but we'll analyze it," concluded Garcia.
Real Espana also announced this week via social media the signing of MF Jairo Daniel Puerto Herrera. Puerto recently played with Puerto Rico FC of the NASL.
