Aldana brace powers Cuba past Guadeloupe in Group B

MIAMI, Florida Cecil Aldana scored a pair of goals to power Cuba to a 3-0 victory over Guadeloupe in Group B of League C of the Road to W Gold Cup on Tuesday afternoon at the Estadio Antonio Maceo in Santiago de Cuba.

Cuba now sit in first place with a perfect nine points after three games, while Guadeloupe are still searching for their first point after three matches.

Cuba enjoyed another strong start and jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 9’ through Cecil Aldana, who headed in a bouncing ball in front of the Guadeloupe net.

But just like in their previous meeting on Friday, the scoreline remained tight thanks to the exceptional goalkeeping of Guadeloupe’s Anais Hatchi, who made a plethora of stellar saves.

Yet there was nothing Hatchi could do to prevent Eunises Nunez from doubling the Cuba advantage in the 37’ with a left-footed finish after the Guadeloupe defense failed to clear.

Aldana then tacked on a second goal for herself with a right-footed shot in first half stoppage time to make it 3-0 to Cuba at the break.

A handball in the Guadeloupe area led to a penalty in favor of Cuba in the 69’, but Hatchi again made a terrific save, denying fellow GK Alianne Matamoro of Cuba.

In the end, though, the spoils belonged to Cuba who kept their perfect record in the group intact.
