MIAMI – Canada will look to advance to the knockout round when it meets Chile in the final matchday of Group A at the 2024 CONMEBOL Copa America on Saturday at INTER&Co Stadium in Orlando, Florida.

The Reds earned their first win in the tournament with a 1-nil win against Peru last Tuesday in Kansas City. Jonathan David scored Canada’s first goal in a Copa America to deliver the victory and the three points.

Jacob Shaffelburg picked up the assist in the lone goal of the match. Cyle Larin and Tani Oluwaseyi also had important chances in the match against Peru.

Maxime Crepeau was again spectacular between the three posts, making four saves. After earning seven saves in the opening match with Argentina, the Canadian goalkeeper now has 11 in total.

Canada head coach Jesse Marsch also picked up his first victory with the team after being appointed in May. The U.S.-born manager will strive to begin his first winning streak with the Canadians.

Chile has won the Copa America twice, in 2015 and 2016. Claudio Bravo, Mauricio Isla, Eduardo Vargas, and Alexis Sanchez remain from those teams that won in back-to-back editions.

Argentine coach Ricardo Gareca was appointed manager in January. As head coach, he led Peru to a third-place finish in 2015 and a runners-up finish in 2019.

The current squad began its campaign with a nil-nil draw against Peru, followed by a 1-nil loss to group leaders Argentina. Bravo stood out as the man of the match against Argentina with eight saves in that encounter.

Victor Davila won the 2023 Concacaf Champions Cup with Club Leon and is one of the options up front for the Chileans. Defender Igor Lichnovsky helped Club America reach the 2024 CCC semifinals.
