MIAMI. - The CONMEBOL Copa America USA 2024 begins on June 20, with 16 teams, including six nations from Concacaf, fighting to win the prestigious continental trophy.

Costa Rica will open their 2024 campaign in Group D against Brazil on June 24 in Los Angeles, versus Colombia on June 28 in Glendale, Arizona, and against Paraguay on July 2 in Austin.

The Costa Rica men’s national team will participate in the tournament for the sixth occasion. Los Ticos qualified for the tournament by defeating Honduras 3-1 in the 2023-24 Concacaf Nations League Play-In on March 23 in Frisco, Texas.

Head coach Gustavo Alfaro took the reins in November 2023 and led the nation to win the play-in match that earned the Copa America qualification. Costa Rica also began its World Cup Qualifying campaign with two consecutive victories.

The first Central American nation to participate in Copa America, Costa Rica debuted in 1997 and was returned for the 2001, 2004, 2011, and 2016 editions. Its best finish is reaching the quarterfinals in 2001 and 2004.

In 17 matches at the Copa America, Costa Rica’s record is five wins, nine defeats, and three draws. Paulo Wanchope is Costa Rica’s all-time scorer in the competition with five goals. Ronald Gomez and Luis Marin hold the nation’s record for most appearances, with nine matches each.
