MIAMI. - The CONMEBOL Copa America USA 2024 begins on June 20, with 16 teams, including six nations from Concacaf, fighting to win the prestigious continental trophy.
The Mexico men’s national team will make its 11th participation in the tournament, the most from any Concacaf nation, and looks to match its best finish of reaching the final in 1993 and 2001.
Mexico will open its 2024 campaign in Group B against Jamaica on June 22 in Houston, versus Venezuela on June 26 in Los Angeles, and against Ecuador on June 30 in Glendale, Arizona.
The reigning Concacaf Gold Cup champions qualified for the tournament by reaching the 2023-24 CONCACAF Nations League Finals.
Head coach Jaime Lozano will look to win another continental trophy as a manager after leading Mexico to the Gold Cup crown last summer. In his playing days, Lozano represented Mexico at the 2004 and 2007 Copa America editions, leaving with third place in the latter.
Legendary striker Luis Hernandez is Mexico’s top scorer in the Copa America with nine goals. Hernandez (1997) and Luis Garcia (1995) are the only Mexicans to win the Golden Boot in the tournament. Claudio Suarez has the most Copa America appearances for Mexico with 22 matches.
In 48 matches in the Copa America, Mexico holds a record of 19 wins, 16 losses, and 13 draws.
