MIAMI. - The CONMEBOL Copa America USA 2024 begins on June 20, with 16 teams, including six nations from Concacaf, fighting to win the prestigious continental trophy.
The Panamanian national team will open their 2024 campaign in Group C against Uruguay on June 23 in Miami. The team will then play matches against the United States on June 27 in Atlanta and Bolivia on July 1 in Orlando.
Panama will make its second appearance in the tournament. Los Canaleros qualified for the tournament by reaching the 2023-24 Concacaf Nations League Finals.
Head coach Thomas Christiansen looks to continue building on a process of ascent with the national team. After his appointment in 2020, Christiansen led Panama to the 2023 Gold Cup Final and consecutive Concacaf Nations League Finals for the 2022-23 and 2023-24 editions. The nation is also off to a two-match winning streak in its quest to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The nation’s previous and only participation came in 2016 as part of the Copa America Centenario, also hosted in the United States. Panama was the third Central American team to participate in the Copa America.
Panama's record in three matches played at the Copa America is one win and two losses. Blas Perez holds the scoring record for Panama in the tournament, with two goals in as many matches. Jaime Penedo, Roderick Miller, Adolfo Machado, Alberto Quintero, Gabriel Gomez, Luis Tejada, Abdiel Arroyo, and Luis Henriquez are tied for the all-time mark in appearances with three matches.
