USA, Mexico, Panama, Jamaica ready for Copa America draw

MIAMI, Florida – This Thursday the Draw for the CONMEBOL Copa America 2024 will take place in Miami during which the four qualified teams from Concacaf – United States, Mexico, Panama and Jamaica -- will learn their group stage fate for next summer’s tournament.

In addition, the four teams vying for the final two Concacaf places in the Copa America 2024 via next March’s Concacaf Nations League Play-Ins – Canada, Trinidad and Tobago, Costa Rica and Honduras – will find out which group they will be slotted into should they qualify for the tournament.

The U.S., Mexico, Panama and Jamaica qualified for the Copa America 2024 as winners of the 2023-24 Concacaf Nations League quarterfinals from League A.

The 12-team field will be made official next March upon the conclusion of the Concacaf Nations League Play-Ins. The winners of the Canada-Trinidad and Tobago and the Honduras-Costa Rica matches will qualify for the Copa America 2024.

The U.S. and Mexico are confirmed as top seeds and will be placed into Pot 1. Panama will be drawn from Pot 3, while Jamaica will be drawn from Pot 4. The two winners of the Concacaf Nations League Play-In matches will be placed into Pot 4.

The Copa America 2024 will kick off on June 20 with the opening match scheduled to be played at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. The Final will be held on July 14 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida.

On Monday, December 4, CONMEBOL revealed the full list of venues for the Copa America 2024. Fourteen different stadiums will host matches throughout the tournament. Four of the stadiums also served as venues during the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup held in the U.S.: Allegiant Stadium, AT&T Stadium, Bank of America Stadium, Levi’s Stadium, NRG Stadium, SoFi Stadium and State Farm Stadium.

Participations of Concacaf teams in CONMEBOL Copa America

Mexico - Mexico has the most Copa America appearances among Concacaf teams with 10. El Tricolor’s best finishes in the tournament came in 1993 and 2001 when they finished as runners-up. Mexico have reached the semifinal round five times and have finished as the Third-Place team three times. Record: 19W-13D-16L.

United States - The U.S. have competed in four previous editions of the Copa America, twice reaching the semifinals in 1995 and 2016. The best finish for the U.S. has been Fourth Place, coming in 1995 and 2016. Record: 5W-2D-11L.

Jamaica – Jamaica became the first Caribbean team to appear in a Copa America when they participated in the 2015 tournament. The Reggae Boyz also took part in the 2016 Copa America Centenario, giving them a total of two appearances in the Copa America. Record: 0W-0D-6L.

Panama – Panama’s lone Copa America appearance came in the 2016 Copa America Centenario when they became the third Central American country to compete in the tournament. Panama’s first Copa America victory was a 2-1 win versus Bolivia in 2016. Record: 1W-0D-2L.
