History
Established in 2006, the Concacaf Beach Soccer Championship was created after FIFA mandated that all confederations organize qualification tournaments to determine the region’s top national teams, ensuring that only the best would earn their place at the World Cup. Before this, nations received invitations without having to qualify.
The inaugural edition preceded a joint qualification tournament with CONMEBOL in 2005. The Concacaf and CONMEBOL joint qualification was also used for the 2007 tournament.
For the 2006 and 2008 Concacaf-only editions, the tournament followed a round-robin format. Starting with the 2009 edition, finals were introduced to determine the champion.
Initially held annually to align with the World Cup’s yearly schedule, the competition adjusted its frequency in 2010 when the global tournament shifted to a biennial format.
Mexico is the most successful nation, with four titles, followed by the reigning champions, the United States, with three, El Salvador, with two, and Panama, with one.
