MOSCOW, Russia – El Salvador’s time at the 2021 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup has come to an end following a narrow 8-7 defeat to Switzerland in Group C on Tuesday at the Luzhniki Beach Soccer Stadium in Moscow, Russia.
In the first ever FBSWC meeting between the two nations, it was a thriller from start to finish.
Frank Velasquez tallied the first of his three goals to open the scoring, however the Cuscatlecos found themselves down 3-1 at the end of the first period.
El Salvador would respond nicely though in the second period with five straight goals through another two scores from Velasquez and goals from Elmer Robles, Exon Perdomo and Ruben Batres to take a 6-4 lead going into the third and final period.
Robles tacked on another goal early in the third period to put El Salvador up 7-4, but a late surge from the Swiss resulted in four straight goals, giving the European side the 8-7 win.
Velasquez finished the tournament as the top scorer for El Salvador with five goals.
