MIAMI, Florida – History was made on Sunday at the 2024 FIFA Beach World Cup in the United Arab Emirates, as Referee Juan Angeles of the Dominican Republic became the first Concacaf referee in history to officiate the Final of a FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.
Juan Angeles was on the whistle in Sunday’s Final in Dubai, where Brazil defeated Italy 6-4.
Not only did Angeles have the opportunity to referee Sunday’s Final, but he was also appointed to the quarterfinal match between Brazil and Japan.
Another referee from the Concacaf region that received a distinctive appointment was Gonzalo Carballo of El Salvador, who officiated the semifinal between Belarus and Italy. Carballo also served as the Third Referee in Sunday’s Final.
Angeles and Carballo were joined by Gumercindo Batista of Panama as the referees representing Concacaf at the Beach Soccer World Cup.
