NASSAU, Bahamas – The group stage of the 2023 Concacaf Beach Soccer Championship came to a close on Wednesday at the Malcolm Beach Soccer Facility in Nassau, Bahamas with Trinidad and Tobago and Guatemala earning big wins to advance to the knockout stage.

GROUP C

In a close encounter in Group C, Trinidad and Tobago squeezed out a 3-2 win versus the Dominican Republic to advance to the knockout round. It was 1-1 after one period on goals from Trinidad and Tobago’s Shane Hospedales and Dominican Republic’s Yensy Severino

Dominican Republic then took a 2-1 lead into the third period on a goal from Miguel Moreta in the second period, but late goals from Zane Coker and Jordan Riley gave Trinidad and Tobago the dramatic victory.

The U.S. took top spot in Group A thanks to a commanding 5-1 win against Panama. Nick Perera scored twice in the first period before the two sides exchanged goals in the second period from Tomas Canale of the U.S. and Jaime Londono for Panama. Chris Toth and Gabriel Silveira then cemented the U.S. win with goals in the third period.

GROUP A 

Group A also wrapped up with El Salvador finishing with a perfect three wins in three matches in a 7-1 triumph over Costa Rica. Jason Urbina’s goal for El Salvador and Lonis Calero’s score for Costa Rica made it 1-1 at the end of the first period, but after that, it was all El Salvador. 

In the second period, Exon Perdomo scored a pair of goals, while Andres Cruz, Francisco Velasquez and Urbina added scores before Velasquez completed the 7-1 scoreline in the third period.

 

Turks and Caicos Islands ended their CBSC campaign in Group A on a high note with a 5-3 win over Guadeloupe. Turks and Caicos Islands held a 1-0 lead after the first period thanks to Peterson Evariste, followed by second period goals from Wilkins Sylvins and Dornell Wiles, while Guadeloupe got on the scoreboard through Sebastien Hell. 

The third period two goals for each side, with Gael Geolier and Marvin Quinol scoring for Guadeloupe, while Billy Forbes notched a brace to secure the three points for Turks and Caicos Islands. 

GROUP B

Guatemala advanced to the knockout stage from Group B thanks to their 3-2 victory against Belize. Angel Saenz and Pablo Crocker struck in the first period for a 2-0 Guatemala lead. Miguel Gonzalez then tacked on a key third goal in the third period to push the Chapines past Belize, who got third period goals from Raymond Ramos and Kenen Castillo.

Mexico and Bahamas completed Group B with a 5-4 win going Mexico’s way. Jose Vizcarra and Diego Martinez countered a Wood Julmis goal for a 2-1 Mexico lead after the first period. Gabriel Macias added another two Mexico goals, while James Thompson scored for Bahamas to make it 4-2 after two periods. Gary Joseph and Kyle Williams scored for Bahamas in the third period, but Martinez added a key fifth to give Mexico the win.
